More accurate! TDK Introduces New Motor Control Angle Sensor for Electric Vehicles

<

TDK exhibited angle sensors for the control of hybrid and electric vehicle motors. This product uses GMR components. Compared with current mainstream angle sensors using coils and magnets, they are characterized by a sensor accuracy of up to 0.35 degrees and a small size.

The angle sensor is used with a metal disc mounted on the motor shaft. The sensor adopts an arc shape and has 4 built-in GMR elements. The rear side of each GMR element is equipped with a permanent magnet. The metal disc is slightly elliptical. When the motor shaft rotates, the magnetic field changes as the distance between the disc and the sensor changes. The angle can be grasped by detecting the change of the magnetic field through the GMR element.

According to the company, for hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles, smooth operation at the time of starting, there is a demand to detect the motor angle at rest with a measurement accuracy of 0.5 to 0.8 degrees. In the future, this sensor will be sold to hybrid cars and electric cars for premium models. Sample shipments have begun.
