Damen launches two new ballast water treatment systems
Damen Group has introduced Damen LoFlo and Damen BalCon two new ballast water (purchasing supply) processing systems to the market.
The new ballast water treatment system is a response to the International Maritime Organization's 2004 Ballast Water Management Convention, as it will soon be approved and the US Coast Guard's ballast water treatment rules are in force.
Damen pointed out that once the International Maritime Organization Convention has passed legislation, it is estimated that 60,000 ships around the world will require the installation of ballast water treatment systems. It is imperative to install quickly and reliably to avoid costly ship closures. To achieve this goal, Damen has developed a standardized ballast water treatment system using proven technology and a one-off approach.
The BalCon ballast water treatment system has a processing capacity ranging from 100 to 750 cubic meters per hour. Since the BalCon ballast water treatment system occupies the smallest space, all equipment can be installed in a standard container. The system can be installed in a cargo hold and is therefore particularly suitable for container ships (ship type shipyards). The BalCon ballast water treatment system is also suitable for tankers (ship-type shipyards) where the container will be installed as a tankhouse.
The BioSea-powered LoFlo ballast water treatment system is designed for ships that require less ballast water treatment capacity. At present, the starting point of the processing capacity of the ballast water treatment system is 100 cubic meters per hour, resulting in unnecessary high energy consumption and a larger footprint. Since the LoFlo ballast water treatment system has a processing capacity of 30 cubic meters per hour and 60 cubic meters per hour, it can reduce footprint and energy consumption. The ballast water treatment system can be easily and efficiently installed in a compact space on the ship or can be modularly installed.
