South Korea's investment in tobacco is mainly in machinery, electronics, and food manufacturing. There are currently 197 South Korean projects investing more than US$ 10 million in cigarettes, including five of the world's top 500 companies. Since the first Korean-invested investment project was established in Yantai in 1989, by the end of April this year, the number of Korean-funded projects in the country has reached 3,313, and the actual use of Korean-funded resources has reached US$ 4.69 billion, accounting for about 1/6 of the Korean capital used by Shandong Province. It has become the largest source of foreign investment in Yantai. Pohang (Yantai) Auto Parts Manufacturing Co., Ltd. located in the development zone was completed and put into production. This company, with a total investment of US$39 million, mainly produces steel sheets for vehicles.

The newly launched "POSCO-CYPC" is mainly sold to such companies as Shanghai Volkswagen, Geely Automobile, Foxconn, and Samsung Electronics. Not only Pohang, Langchao Lejin, Lejin Electronics, Daewoo Shipbuilding, Doosan Machinery, and modern ice wheels have taken off in Yantai. In early May, Yantai Foxconn Group produced 2,720 sets of LCD TVs with a value of 1.93 million US dollars, which were exported to South Korea. This is the first time that Foxconn has exported to South Korea. It is understood that there will be 7,280 LCD TVs successively exported to South Korea. It is understood that in the Korean and tobacco trade, the major export products include computer parts, steel products and products, mobile phones, auto parts, and stone materials. Major imported products include computer parts, machinery and equipment, steel products and textiles. The data shows that Yantai’s trade input and output to South Korea soared at an average annual rate of 34.3%. The total trade volume between Yantai and South Korea in 2010 reached 10.28 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for 23.5% of the city's import and export volume.
